Houston IMAGE Expo

This year the first year I have ever been to IMAGE. The show is in Houston Texas and held in the convention center. The show is semi new, meaning that there has not yet been a show of this style in this location. The venue is big, but not as big as PREMIERE orlando. Premiere is one of the largest shows of the year. The Houston airport is surprisingly very cool. the layout is nice and the people were respectful.
Because i have never been to Houston before i convinced Brice (Assistant at TEAL salon) who lived in Houston for a long time to show the Team and I the Town. This particular weekend the team consisted of Myself (TUESDAYYYY!), Jamie, Brice, Mom and Dad (Deannalyn and Ryan), as well as a few friends from Lanza. Brice took us shopping in Montrose. There were tons of cool vintage clothing stores and fantastic food. Brice was a great tour guide showing us where his first apartment and favorite bars were. Mexican food was the hight of the night. We all had a great time just bonding as a team.
The hair industry is very much a community. I think that hair shows for a lot of people are like family reunions! I love hair and so does everyone else there. The best part is that there are hours of education just waiting at your finger tips. This time my mom and dad were on the main stage three times, as well at Two different classes.
We had a model call at the convention center were we got some really great models to commit to the weekend. Model calls are actually a bit stressful because you have to be sure they will show up as well as make sure they are willing to change their hair. It is so much worse when you are doing mostly hair cuts because it is hard to talk models into cutting their hair. Sometimes at hair shows if the model call does not go well you have to go to places like the mall or shopping center to try and find some people to use. This time we got lucky though an all the girls were great.
The shows went really smooth and judging by our large crowd turnout the people liked us! We all had so much fun prepping hair and getting in wardrobe that when it had to come to an end on Monday night we were all bummed it was over. Overall to me Houston was full of crazy adventures, Painting wigs, mexican food, and sweet models.

Go to this next year theres a ton to learn!

NAHA weekend!

T.TEAL NAHA 2012

This weekend was the North American Hair Awards people from all around submit photos and compete in different catagories. This year the event was in Las Vegas... Good place to put Hundreds of out of control hair school students, and hairdressers? Sure? The weekend started off nice and slow for me, on the plane i got to me Nick Hemsley and his super fashionable salon team. We talked all about NAHA and how excited we all were. Nick a bit more because he was nominated for newcomer of the year... Later in to become the newcomer peoples choice winner! This year we stayed at the Luxor, which I had never before realized but is a VERY creepy place. Me along with my Hair Nerd friends got all dolled up headed the Beacon room.
Beacon is another photo competition that is specifically for Students! The winners get a free ticket to NAHA as well as many wonderful classes during the weekend just for them. The speakers at BEACON are fantastic so the team and i decided to get a tiny listen in. After our BEACON advernute we all had to get ready again (girls) for the NAHA coctail party.
The cocktail party was so fun all the people were great and the food was tasty. I got meet a bunch of cool people from the hair world. Seeing all the excited nominees made me even more jazzed to go to NAHA. Most of the party was spent giggling with Steve Elias. Steve's Birthday was that weekend so in honor of that we all decided to got to Fremont street for dinner.
It was my first time on Fremont so i had no idea what to expect i was totally over whelmed with the cool lights and music. We did see some very crazy stuff though lots of Naked people dancing, Zoro, and at the restaurant a crazy couple of three. There was a Limo waiting outside for us!... nope but there was one a few blocks that was cheeper than the cab for all of us to take to we headed back to the Hotel in style!
The next day I got an early start trying to get a few good pictures of hairdressers in the early hours of the morning, I got into the press room and stared the editing process. After a while of people rapidly printing things out and passing around business cards i decided it was time for brunch. Brunch was with the Hair Nerds, and all of Tantalum magizine. The restaurant acted a little bit like they had never seem a large group before so we got a bit spread out, which was a bummer, but the food was hot so everything was okay. The schedule got very busy after eating I had to run to the BEACON room, then back to the press room, over to the show, and try to find the VIP room for that night.
After running around it was time to get ready (AGAIN)! My dress was good, hair was ready, and shoes were on. As Me, Jamie, Erin, Carrie, Amanda, and the Hair Husbands all walked up i swear we for a brief moment were in a James bond movie. It almost brought a tear to my eye getting to see all my friend from school and teachers there to support our school.
As i walked around before the show i was taking pictures and showing off my press pass to EVERYONE that walked by. You could say that i was WAY STOKED about an all access press pass were all of my big time HAIR HEROS would be!
The show was so well put together the stage was beautiful and all the contestants worked very hard. I was so proud at the end of the show because i was reminded once again just how HUGE and FANTASTIC our hair world is.

History of Hairdressing Webinar!

On Monday my dad did something pretty awesome. He hosted his first Webinar. A Webinar is like an online seminar, you can post a link to it and anyone can join and watch. He taught his History of Hairdressing class, it was epic. All of his friends logged on to attend the class. So many people were asking questions as he taught. It was a great turn out and the cool thing about teaching a Webinar is that you know the people who are attending are there to learn what you have to teach. Hosting a Webinar is a great way share education with people all over the country.
For more information about up-coming Webinars here is a link to the PBA website:
